A sustainable, high-protein fishmeal replacement from British BSF
BSFL insect meal is produced by milling our heat-dried larvae into a fine, consistent flour. At approximately 55% protein on a defatted dry weight basis, it represents one of the highest-protein single-ingredient animal feeds available — comparable to fishmeal, but without the environmental and supply chain risks.
The amino acid profile of BSFL meal closely mirrors that of fishmeal, making it a nutritionally credible replacement in aquaculture pellets, compound livestock feed and premium dry pet food. It is particularly valued in salmon and trout aquaculture, where fishmeal has historically dominated but sourcing pressure is growing.
Our insect meal is produced entirely from British-farmed BSF larvae, with no blending or supplementation with imported material. This gives UK buyers full traceability and the ability to make credible British-origin claims.
Why insect meal is growing as a feed ingredient
Global fishmeal supply is under increasing pressure from overfishing, climate impacts and competition from the human food sector. Prices are volatile and provenance is opaque. Insect meal offers a domestically producible, sustainably farmed alternative with a comparable nutritional profile and a significantly lower environmental footprint.
EU regulations now permit insect meal in aquaculture feed and poultry feed. UK regulations are aligned with this position. Demand from compound feed manufacturers and pet food producers is growing, and British-origin insect meal commands a premium over imported equivalents.
